Write for Us: Gardening

Write for Us garden

StarterGarden reaches thousands of experienced gardeners, beginners, and plant-lovers every month. When you write for us, you’re helping real people grow better gardens. We value authors who know how to provide honest tips.

You are writing for an audience who trusts us, because we only hire actual gardeners who want to learn how to grow plants, fix their garden problems, and care for their yard. We give credit to our writers. We help build their careers in the gardening community. We pay them.

As part of StarterGarden, we not only teach and share things we are learning, but also share feedback and editorial assistance within our writing community to promote our writers. Provide feedback to help them become better gardeners.

What We’re Looking For

StarterGarden focuses on practical gardening content that helps our readers grow healthy plants and create beautiful spaces. We want writers who can share real experiences with planting, growing, and maintaining gardens.

Topics We Love

We need articles about all areas of gardening. Write about planting seeds, watering, picking vegetables, soil care, pest control, and plant maintenance. Tell readers what to do, when to do it, and how.

Our readers enjoy guides for small spaces and hot, dry regions. Topics like growing peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, or sweet peas always do well. Zone 6b and zone 9b planting tips are also popular.

We also need answers to common questions. What does dormant grass look like? How can someone tell when carrots start to grow? How much sun does a Christmas cactus need?

You can write about everyday topics such as the difference between a gardener and a landscaper, which trees cause allergies, or how to prune spider plants. Spring yard cleanups and flower planting schedules also interest readers.

Use your own experience and include trusted references to support your advice.

Content Types Accepted

How-to articles, plant care, garden growing guides, troubleshooting posts, and listicles like “10 Best Plants for Shady Yards” have performed exceedingly well for us in the past. We also approve beginner guides or advanced techniques depending on your skill.

Comparisons of product reviews should be honest, but include pros and cons, price comparison, and where to buy the product. StarterGarden readers respond well to instructional photo sequences.

Personal stories about successes, failures, and lessons learned in your garden help people. Share the things you tried that worked. Share the things that didn’t work too.

Submission Guidelines

StarterGarden has simple rules to help you write content that our readers will love. Follow these guidelines to increase your chances of getting published.

Writing Style

Start a garden. To create a plot of land with plants, such as flowers and vegetables. It can be fun. The study of soundscapes is known as acoustic ecology, a sub-discipline of ecology.

Dish the good and the bad. StarterGarden readers want honest experiences, not marketing talk. State what plants you saw on what date and what you thought you had seen.

Don’t forget about safety warnings, toxic plants around animals and children. Our purpose is people’s well-being, not product sales.

Formatting Requirements

Use headings to break up your content into easy sections. Include bullet points for lists and steps. Add helpful links to support your claims, but don’t overdo it.

Articles should be 800-2000 words long. Include at least 3-5 subheadings to make scanning easier. StarterGarden prefers short paragraphs and white space to improve readability.

Submit articles in Google Docs or Word format. Include suggested images or photo ideas. We handle final formatting, but a clear structure helps our editing process.

What You Get in Return?

We also give bio credit and a link to your website or social media account. Growing guides and seasonal articles earn higher rates than a short description of a plant.

All writers get a bio and links to their personal website or social media. StarterGarden promotes your articles on our social media accounts and attributes you as the author. Building a portfolio with us creates other writing opportunities, too.

Our editing team will improve your writing without altering your voice. You will learn new writing and gardening skills from our experienced editors.

How to Submit?

First, email us to outline your ideas and describe what you want to write about in two or three sentences. This saves us both time and helps ensure that we want your topic.
